Course Objectives

  • To empower participants with practical skills to anticipate, analyze and evaluate pre-conflict, conflict and post conflict situations so that they can apply them to resolve conflict.
  • To empower participants with skills to apply their knowledge of Conflict resolution to Peace building situations and mechanisms in the community, and workplace.
  • Duration: 1 month
  • Programme of study: Weekend/Online
  • Cost: USD UGX 350,000/= Ugandans and USD 100$ for international students.
  • Award: Certificate

  • The course is developed for participants across various sectors, including but not limited to:
  • Police and other law enforcement officers
  • Businessmen and women
  • Court clerks and people working in the Justice, Law and Order Sector
  • Local leaders engaged in the Dispute and Conflict Settlement
  • Non state actors for example people working in Non-Governmental Organizations involved in Conflict Resolution and Peace Building Services
  • Mediators, Arbitrators, and Negotiators in Conflict situations
  • Refugees and Organizations engaged in work with Refugees
  • General Public

What will you achieve?

  • By the end of the training, participants will be able to:
  • Use the skills obtained to anticipate, prevent and resolve conflict in their workplaces and communities
  • Develop appropriate peace building mechanisms in their work places and communities to ensure sustainable peace
  • Expand their Conflict Resolution and Peace Building Capacity and impact to Organizations and Communities from resourceful networks nationally and internationally
  • Apply skills of Conflict Resolution and Peace building to a broad range of situations locally, nationally and Internationally

  • Conflict Analysis, the Conflict Spiral and its implications to Conflict Resolution
  • Cultural and Legal/Judicial parameters or contexts for Conflict Resolution and Peace Building
  • Civil and Commercial Conflict and Peace Building
  • Theories of Peace: Positive and Negative Peace and their impact of Peace Building in Communities at National and International level
  • Effective Conflict Resolution for sustainable Peace Building

Special Features

  • Participants shall be able to appreciate the legal ad cultural contexts for different conflict resolution ad peace building approaches
  • Participants will use their skills to design appropriate Conflict Resolution and Peace building mechanisms for the environments in which they work and stay taking into account vulnerable groups like women and children
  • Participants will able to appreciate the different roles various members and stakeholders in the society play both in Conflict Resolution and also in Peace Building and how they can tap into this resource for sustainable Conflict Resolution and Peace building initiatives
  • The course content, while it’s built on theory is largely practical in nature.
